So,
is this your commentary?
Say it again, but use my name
say it again but to your daughters face
say it again with a brick between your teeth
So,
do you see it differently?
Have you seen the way she holds her keys?
Did you let her speak?
Or was that the hammer
at the end of your court case
letting you leave.
If you want it,
then take it from me.
You’re on the wrong end of an emergency
I’ve got your blood dripping off my teeth
boys like you should be afraid of me.
I am not your friend.
I know exactly what you’re reaching for
but you can’t have everything.
Again,
I am not your friend.
I’ll make you cry at the alter,
burn at the stake
if you’re scared,
well you should be.
So safe in your own body,
flicking your switchblade
tongue in your cheek.
All that you have
deserves to be buried
and I’ll set fire to the cemetery.
Grab him by the neck with both hands.
explain to him the only way he understands
punishment, politics,
the taste of your spit.
Pull him by the hair
and hang him from it.
I am not your friend.
I won’t tell you again
I know exactly what you’re reaching for
but you can’t have everything
Again.
I am not your friend.
I’ll make you cry at the alter,
burn at the stake
are you scared?
‘Cause you should be.
so which one leaves?
The hand you bite,
or the one that feeds.
Tight on your neck when you want to speak
but dogs like you should be kept on their lead.
why don’t you try and bite me?
I’m not your friend.

Romance of Affliction somehow makes an old genre feel brand new. Amazing. I would have swore this album was from 2005 if I didn't see with my own eyes it wasn't. SYSC takes everything good about mid-00s metalcore and brings it into the modern day, leaving behind the trash. It's a pure distillation of the genre with brilliant structure, pacing, and lyrics. The album ebbs and flows, letting emotions swell before punching in with some of the most intense passages I've heard in a while. rettisawesome
I like the direction the band went on this record.
They took the atmosphere of TDP, and made it grittier and dirtier - it's reminding me of bands like Deftones in the best possible way.
There are a few tracks that I'm struggling to like, but even those have memorable moments that make me want to replay them again. Vivian
beyond all else, Alexisonfire have always been the absolute best at what they do. This LP is no different. It's such a rare and amazing thing to be listening to the same band for 20 yrs and still be blown away by their talent, progression, and pure commitment to what they do. Nothing else to say but thanks. eliel
